Five in five with: Kenton Strachan
1. What’s your background?
I’m a U.S. CPA, who started my career at a Big Four firm in Nassau, the Bahamas. Over the years, I’ve held multiple progressive senior leadership roles in industry in the areas of professional services, gaming, hospitality and wealth management.
2. What’s your accounting superpower?
My ability to connect the dots and boil down financial and operational information into digestible bites. We have to remember that our clients, both internal and external, need the best information – not information overload – as this allows them to make informed decisions.
3. Do you see your career as authentically you?
I don’t consider myself a traditional accountant, but more of an entrepreneur. My role allows me to participate in and influence every facet of the organization, which is an amazing opportunity that perfectly aligns with who I am as a professional.
4. What industry trends are likely to continue in the coming months?
It’s tough to see over the horizon due to the impact of COVID-19, but we are optimistic the outcome will be positive for all. Our main focus is helping our clients navigate these interesting times by providing innovative accounting and tax planning solutions and helping them understand any and all funding options available via government programs. I do expect a hybrid work-from-home model is here to stay, so professional service firms must be nimble and forward-thinking enough to understand the technology needs/gaps of their team members, ensuring they can continue providing great client service, whether in or out of the office.
5. What can clients do to get more from their accountants?
Spending time with our clients to understand their business needs, pain points and how we can continue to best serve them is always top of mind. We want our clients to ask the tough questions, and we remain committed to providing high-level deliverables and predictive needs analysis, keeping clients ahead and on top.
