Your role
- Accept clients and engagements as directed by a Partner or Principal;
- Plan, perform and supervise engagements in accordance with professional standards established by the CPA Canada and by the Firm;
- Senior Managers will take primary responsibility for planning, performing, and completing compliance work. Complete Financial Statements and tax returns which are ready for Partner/Principal review and final processing.
- Provide accounting technicians with work assignments; monitor the staff’s progress and provide feedback to the employees and to the Engagement Partner/Principal;
- Complete work performed on a timely basis; meeting reasonable deadlines; comply with time budgets provided by the Partner or Principal for both their time and that of the junior/senior they are supervising;
- Consult with a Partner, Principal or other professionals in the firm when faced with a contentious issue or areas that the Senior Manager is not familiar with;
- Remain abreast of changes to standards in preparing financial statements and areas of taxation and assurance services;
- Provide client service which is friendly, courteous, approachable, and professional;
- Be available during peak seasons to complete the work that they are responsible for – this may require working evenings and weekends;
- Be available to travel to out of town clients. This may necessitate staying in another community overnight or for several days;
- Plan their vacation and other leaves around their work load;
- Complete PD as required by Professional Designation
- Close collaboration with clients to obtain information for file completion.
- On the permission of an individual practitioner, the Senior Manager can be given the authority to issue financial statements, file tax returns and perform other duties as assigned by the practitioner in accordance with CPA licensing.
What you bring to the table
- University degree, Accounting or Management major with a CPA designation
- 4+ years of post-CPA experience
- Strong working knowledge of accounting software such as: Quickbooks, Caseware, Tax Programs (Tax Prep) and Microsoft Excel
- Public accounting experience is a must.
- Strong interpersonal skills, self-motivated and an ability to work both independently and in a team.
- Strong understanding of a client-focused environment including related deadlines and the ability to work to meet those deadlines.
- Sound judgment regarding confidential and sensitive matters.
