Your role 

This position involves oversight for the application of and compliance with audit and accounting standards (CAS, ASPE, ASNPO, CSRE 2400 and CSRS 4200) as well as the design and implementation of related training programs. The role will also provide professional practice support to the firm’s engagements as well as operational oversight to the firm’s system of quality management under the framework of CSQM 1 and CSQM 2.

  • Act as Head of the Learning & Development department
  • Perform and oversee EQR process (Engagement Quality Review).
  • Operational responsibility for the System of Quality Management (SOQM).
  • Perform annual internal monitoring and testing of compliance with the Firm’s System of Quality Management.
  • Lead the assessment and response to new accounting standards, ensuring thorough communication and documentation across the organization.
  • Provide education and implementation strategies on new Accounting and Audit Standards.
  • Oversee and assist with engagement performance policy and procedure development.
  • Coordinate and communicate changes to engagement templates, training, and standards across the firm.
  • Act as Firm liaison for triennial Baker Tilly peer reviews and CPA Ontario practice inspections.
  • Responsible for coordinating and completing firm CPAO obligations
  • Assist in collating results of reviews and practice inspections and communicate findings to the partners.
  • Assist in developing and implementing action plans that may arise from these reviews and inspections.
  • Consult with engagement teams on complex accounting and financial reporting matters
  • Participate in external accounting groups or committees to discuss and gather information about new and emerging accounting issues.
  • Oversee and ensure compliance of accounting staff’s CPD mandatory requirements.
  • Offer expertise in support of projects, systems, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Communicate with the firm’s clients on the implementation of accounting standards.

What you bring to the table  

  • Undergraduate degree in accounting
  • CPA designation
  • Experience in an accounting role at a public accounting firm
  • ≥7 years experience in accounting, with a focus on compliance and financial reporting
  • Strong analytical skills, and excellent communications
  • Ability to deliver responsibilities and make decisions with minimal direct supervision.
  • Sound judgment regarding confidential and sensitive matters.
  • Ability to take initiative for own learning and development.
  • Management of audit engagements.
  • Experience with internal audit.
  • Experience with corporate governance.
  • Experience with design and testing of internal controls.
