We are looking for a Payroll Specialist to join our Baker Tilly Advantage team— a role where you will be responsible for completing the payroll for our clients, managing their employee files and onboarding and departures. The ideal candidate will have experience in HR and payroll with vast knowledge of Canadian payroll and labour laws (provincial and federal).

Your role:

  • Coordination with external parties to complete the payroll for our clients;
  • Completing bi-weekly/monthly payroll for a vast variety of clients using multiple payroll systems for hourly and salaried employees;
  • Direct client face time by assisting clients in setting up payroll software if needed and answering any questions they may have;
  • Completing T4’s and any other year-end reports, as required;
  • Educate our clients on the Employment Standards Act and Worker’s Compensation Board (multi-province);
  • Assist in special projects as requested

What you bring to the table:

  • College diploma (minimum) or University Degree in payroll, accounting, finance, commerce or related discipline;
  • 5 or more years of experience in a payroll position (multiple provinces considered an asset);
  • Bilingual (would be considered an asset);
  • Full understanding of Payroll & HR functions and best practices;
  • Experience with various HRIS and Payroll Platforms (preferred);
  • Sound judgment regarding confidential and sensitive payroll related matters;
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills;
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment;
  • Proficient with various software programs including Microsoft Office Suite, Wage point,
  • Ceridian, Xero, Sage and/or QuickBooks Online;
  • National Payroll Institute – Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) Designation would be considered an asset.
