From March 6-19, 2015, Collins Barrow is highlighting the achievements of several women who continually strive to create value, break equality barriers and empower others.
International Women’s Day celebrates the women who make it happen all around the world. The women of Collins Barrow make it happen every day because ours is a workplace environment that fosters the careers of Canadian women. Over the past 20 years, the accounting industry has seen a positive shift in attitudes concerning female advancement. At Collins Barrow, we’re proud to report that we have a higher percentage of women partners, and growing, than the industry norm. Meet Tyna Jallet, CPA, CA.
Tyna joined Collins Barrow Montreal LLP in 1989 not as a grad student but after having raised three children and been heavily involved as a volunteer in all their activities. Yet despite starting her career later than the norm, she more than proved to herself and her family that “anything is possible once you set your mind to it.” That back in 1999 she was only the second woman in the firm to ever be promoted to the rank of partner speaks volumes about her determination and abilities.
Add to that her decision to specialize by earning a diploma from the University of Toronto in Investigative and Forensic Accounting. Busy as her forensic auditing and consulting practice is, Tyna is also the firm’s HR partner in charge of recruitment and training, giving her the opportunity to work closely with students enrolled in Concordia University’s co-op program, as well as young professionals coming up the ranks. Her chief charities, heart and stroke, women’s cancers and animal rescue, reflect her warm personal side.
“Collins Barrow has supported me every step of the way in realizing my goal of developing and building a successful forensic accounting practice,” says Tyna. "Given the firm’s entrepreneurial culture and forward-looking thinking, always well out ahead of the pack in anticipating how best to answer our clients’ increasingly sophisticated financial advisory needs, I can think of no better firm in which to be a partner or a client.”
Women Tyna admires
“I would travel back in time to ask Helen Keller how she found the strength to overcome her disabilities. I would praise her for forging ahead at a time when women’s rights were not recognized, while proving to the world that disabilities do not disable you, but rather make you strong. I would also like to meet my paternal grandmother who ran a farm and raised children through the horrors of war to thank her for the traits passed on to me of resilience, self-determination and love, which have helped me achieve everything in my life.”
