Red Deer, AB – Collins Barrow staff accountant Julie Vasselin recently achieved greatness at the World Wakesurf Championships, winning first place in the Women's Semipro Outlaw Skim Board Division. Back in 2014, she entered her first contest season and won first in the Worlds for Women's Amateur Outlaw Skim Board Division. Earlier this year, she also won the Canadian Nationals in Toronto and the Nationals in Georgia.
While Julie only started wakesurfing three years ago, she took to the sport like a natural. “I immediately knew I wanted to take it seriously and try competing,” she said, adding that she took lessons and committed herself to an intensive training regimen. “I owe most of my success to my parents, particularly my dad. During the training process, he towed me around the lake for hours on his boat each day.”
Julie began her CB Life via an internship at CB Red Deer, returning as a full-time Staff Accountant in the Tax Department. She is currently in her second year of the three-year In-Depth Tax Course. “Julie celebrates her one-year anniversary with the firm on Oct. 1 and she recently earned her CPA, CA designation,” said Collins Barrow Red Deer managing partner Rob Kolton. “We are extremely proud of her accomplishments, both inside and outside the office.”
