From March 6-19, Collins Barrow is highlighting the excellence and achievements of several women who strive towards creating value; breaking equality barriers and empowering others.

International Women’s Day celebrates the women who make it happen all around the world. Our women make it happen every day. Collins Barrow believes in a workplace environment that fosters the careers of Canadian women. Over the past 20 years, the accounting industry has seen a positive shift in the attitudes towards female advancement. At Collins Barrow, we already have a higher percentage of women partners than the industry norm—and growing. Meet Leah.

A graduate of Trent University, Honours Business Administration, Leah has been providing accounting and entrepreneurial advisory services with Collins Barrow Kawarthas since 1997. For several years prior to joining the firm, she worked in the private sector, developing the skills needed to hone her craft and become a leader in value creation and client services. Leah’s proactive and innovative approach to identifying opportunities for growth has helped clients in the commercial and not-for-profit sectors reassess their financial objectives and reach their business goals. Leah’s dynamic ability to provide clarity led her to joining partnership in 2002.

As a firm believer in the power of mentorship, Leah is committed to lifelong learning and continuous professional development, vocations that have aided her in creating the paths to success for entrepreneurial clients. Leah is the Treasurer of Hospice Peterborough and Kairos Non-Profit Housing, but she takes a personal interest in the YWCA Peterborough Haliburton’s “A Turning Point for Women” organization, where girls and women are empowered to take action against domestic violence and economic insecurity.

“I am proud to be a part of a firm and network that is devoted to providing clients with the advice that leads to achieving growth and improved profitability,” says Leah. “The talented group of men and women of Collins Barrow take into account the individual needs of each client, so we can structure tailored solutions that address each business challenge. I am passionate about the success of my clients and am inspired on a daily basis to keep pushing the envelope when it comes to innovative ways of delivering value.”

Did you know: If Leah could speak to one great woman in history, it would be Amelia Earnheart. Because of her passion for discovery and commitment to pushing boundaries, Leah would like to know what drove her to become the woman she was.
