Ten companies will bring home Employees' Choice Awards this month, after being judged by their own employees and a panel of HR experts as being some of the best employers in Ottawa.
The 10 firms - bitHeads, Ernst & Young LLP, Protus, McMillan, the Medical Council of Canada, the Brookstreet Hotel, Holiday Inn Select Hotel & Suites Kanata, Chipworks Inc., Classic Care Pharmacy and Collins Barrow Ottawa LLP - are will be honoured at an awards breakfast later in October, and will be profiled in the fall issue of Ottawa HR magazine.
"What makes these awards so unique is we're measuring the level of satisfaction and engagement of local employers from the perspective of their staff," said Ottawa Business Journal publisher Michael Curran. "Really, what better measurement is there?"
Company employees were surveyed extensively on various aspects of their employment, including work/life balance or whether they were engaged in meaningful work.
The judging panel was chaired by Tom Bursey, past president of the Human Resources Professionals Association's Ottawa chapter, and included Robert Monti of law firm Nelligan O'Brien Payne LLP, Carole Morris of Knightsbridge, Lee Whelly of Telesat Canada, Gerry Meyer of Minto Developments Inc. and Donna Hansen of HRPA Ottawa.
For employers, the awards send a strong message that your company is committed to creating a great workplace. Employers also receive a professional employee engagement survey free of charge. For employees, it's a chance to tell it like it is.
The awards breakfast is set for Oct. 22 at the HRPA Eastern Ontario Conference and Trade Show.
