The Government of Canada has developed a program intended to encourage agricultural producers to become participants in the biofuel value chain and increase their share of the benefits from renewable fuels production beyond delivering the raw materials. Seven million dollars in funding will be provided in 2007-2008 through this program (BOPI).
Canadian citizens or permanent residents who are involved in a qualifying project can make an application for funding through their industry council. Qualifying projects would encompass the following activates:
-
Hiring advisors to assist in developing business proposals to create and expand biofuel production capacity involving significant ownership by agricultural producers;
-
Undertaking relevant studies required to support business proposals;
-
Investigating the pre-commercialization of biofuels related research; and,
-
Gathering information to help clarify opportunities to generate agricultural industry involvement in biofuels capacity building.
BOPI projects must be related to the production of liquid biofuels for transportation purposes.
If you believe you have a project that might qualify for assistance under BOPI, further information is available on the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada website at www.agr.gc.ca.
