Five in five with: Sameer Noormohamed
What’s your background?
I started out with a small indirect tax recovery firm back in 2006 and was there for over three years. After deciding to open my own business, I realized I wanted to pursue indirect tax as a career and joined Collins Barrow Toronto in 2012, moving to Baker Tilly Windsor in 2018. I have now been in indirect tax for 12 years.
What keeps you busy outside the office?
My family, travelling and sports.
What is your proudest professional accomplishment?
It would have to be where I am today – and every step I take towards my next goal.
What advice would you give someone starting a career in your field?
Tax is a humbling field that takes several years to master. If you are patient and work hard, you will see progress.
What are the qualities that make Baker Tilly Windsor unique?
Our office has a wide breadth of knowledge that can serve the needs of small family-owned businesses and large multinational organizations.
How would you describe your contribution to Baker Tilly Windsor?
After joining Baker Tilly Windsor in 2018, I established the Indirect Tax practice as practice lead. During the last three years, we have doubled revenue each year. I am glad to be a trusted advisor to our clients locally and internationally. Indirect tax is a highly specialized area within the tax world and to be able to offer this highly specialized expertise to my colleagues and clients has been extremely valuable to our firm.
If you weren’t in your current job, what profession would you pursue?
Something sports related. I’m particularly interested in golf, basketball and football.
What does “Now, for tomorrow” (Baker Tilly’s mantra) mean to you?
Be a trusted advisor to your clients and create a good foundation for them today to ensure a successful future.
What does the future hold for you and your profession?
From a professional standpoint, I plan to continue learning and pursuing new goals. From a personal standpoint, I plan to enjoy my family, be part of their growth and continue guiding them into the future.
