Biography

Northern Manitoba Accountant Dion Bird is a partner in Baker Tilly HMA LLP's office in The Pas. Dion holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree majoring in accounting from the Asper School of Business at the University of Manitoba. Dion articled for his Chartered Accountant designation in the firm's Winnipeg office commencing in 2004 and transferred to The Pas in 2007 after qualifying as a Chartered Accountant.

Dion wrote the Uniform Final Exam to become a Chartered Professional Accountant in September of 2006 and placed on the National Honour Roll. In 2006, the National Honour Roll was comprised of the Top 60 candidates out of 2,694 writers. In February 2007, Dion was also the sole recipient of the Great West Life Leadership Award which is awarded annually to the successful Manitoba UFE candidate or candidates who exemplify leadership in community, work and academic activities.

Dion has a wealth of experience in assurance, taxation and accounting software consulting. He successfully leads a number of the firm's most prominent engagements for non-for-profit organizations, local governments, First Nation communities and for-profit businesses.

Dion also serves as advisor to a number of physicians and other medical professionals both incorporated and unincorporated. Dion is also the CPA Western School of Business training principal for Baker Tilly HMA LLP and has mentored a number of students.

In 2014, Dion was honoured with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Manitoba Early Achievement Award.

In 2019, Dion was selected by The Pas Minor Hockey Association to receive the 3M Coach of the Year Award.

In 2020, Dion was formally recognized by the accounting body CPA Manitoba as a Fellow CPA.
