Your role
- File quality review for engagements: review of assurance financial statements in accordance with the applicable reporting framework prior to release
- Develop, update, and communicate internal policies and procedures to ensure compliance with the firm’s System of Quality Management, industry standards, and regulations
- Train new hires on the System of Quality Management
- Assist in performing annual ongoing monitoring and testing of compliance with the Firm’s System of Quality Management
- Conduct regular reviews to identify areas for improvement in internal controls and processes related to file quality and assurance engagements
- Assist in performing annual file level monitoring and compilation and communication of results
- Work closely with People & Culture, Service Line Leaders, and key stakeholders as needed to design, develop, and execute inclusive, high quality, sustainable learning and development programs and solutions for staff at all levels across the Firm
- Drive relevant Firm focused learning outcomes to meet organizational goals ensuring alignment with career paths, industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with external training providers, industry associations, and regulatory bodies
- Stay current with changes in accounting and auditing standards, legal regulations, and professional ethics.
- Conduct new hire and current staff training sessions both in person/on site and virtual.
- Work with Service Line Leader to arrange external sessions undertaken by partners and staff, including sessions organized by Baker Tilly National
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to create content that addresses technical skills, industry knowledge, and professional development needs. Develop and maintain knowledge library for the firm including standardized notes to financial statement and guidance on application of new accounting and assurance pronouncements
- Administrator of Learning Management System
- Assist in coordinating Baker Tilly National peer file reviews and CPA Nova Scotia inspections (occurs every three years)
- Assist in collating results of reviews and practice inspections and communicating them to professional staff
- Assist in implementing action plans that may arise from these reviews and inspections
- Maintain Baker Tilly Templates (CaseWare) and assist in rollout of new versions
What you bring to the table
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related discipline.
- Canadian CPA, CA; or internationally trained accountant with primary experience in private enterprises (not IFRS) working towards the Canadian CPA designation
- Minimum 5 years post CPA/CA qualification experience with technical skills for accounting, auditing, and financial statement disclosures
- Experience working in a public accounting firm
- Thorough understanding of Canadian accounting standards, regulations, and ethical guidelines
- Strong knowledge of training and development methodologies, adult learning principles, tools, and best practices
- Strong project management and organizational skills that make your ability to multi-task and meet deadlines second to none
- Strong leadership and written, verbal, and presentation communication skills
- Engage from a place of curiosity, listening deeply, creativity, consultation, and delivery
- Proven experience in designing interactive, effective, and efficient learning experiences to achieve technical and non-technical outcomes
- Exceptional facilitation abilities, including active engagement and the ability to achieve learning outcomes in a wide range of circumstances
- Strong technical and analytical skills matched with problem-solving skills and professional judgement to help you find optimal solutions in an efficient manner
- Curiosity and an eye for detail that allows you to view challenges from multiple perspectives and enhance clients’ knowledge along the way
- Self-motivation with an ability to work both independently and in a team environment, including excellent collaboration ability with multiple stakeholders
- Key assets include:
- Experience in learning management system (LMS) implementation and administration
- TalentLMS would be ideal
- Experience in CaseWare/CaseView
- Experience in learning management system (LMS) implementation and administration
