Five in five with: Chad Cossette
What’s your background?
After pursuing a career in professional sports in both Canada and Europe, I spent time as a freelance consultant in the health and wellness space, which seemed like a natural transition at the time. I served in a leadership role in one of the largest health companies in Canada for five years, servicing multiple locations in the Windsor area. In this position, I cut my teeth in business operations, developed a team and discovered a passion for serving others before teaming up with the folks at Baker Tilly.
What keeps you busy outside the office?
My young daughter holds the majority of my time outside the office, but I am also studying at the University of Windsor. I also enjoy sailing and have been trying to pick up my golf game.
What is your proudest professional accomplishment?
I would say finishing my degree. I stopped my studies to play professional football in France and left three classes short of graduation, only to return 10 years later to finish.
What advice would you give someone starting a career in your field?
Don’t try to be something you’re not. Discover your strengths and your passion, be relentless in your pursuit of everything and never stop developing yourself.
What are the qualities that make Baker Tilly Windsor unique?
We have outstanding leadership and an entrepreneurial culture that encourages creative new ideas, which leads to new opportunities for everyone in the firm. Our senior professionals raise the bar in terms of both subject matter expertise and client service, while building great relationships with our clients. We also know how to have a good time and keep things balanced around our brand-new office.
How would you describe your contribution to Baker Tilly Windsor?
I provide advisory services for clients, help companies improve their teams through various coaching modalities and create frameworks around strategic planning.
If you weren’t in your current job, what profession would you pursue?
In my last role, I always said my dream was to pursue a career in business, so I’m exactly where I want to be. But if I had to pursue a different profession, I might choose to become a stockbroker.
What does “Now, for tomorrow” (Baker Tilly’s mantra) mean to you?
Forward thinking blended with current positioning – like chess. We help clients answer the question, “Where am I now and where do I want to be?”
What does the future hold for you and your profession?
We have a great opportunity to keep our firm growing with our consulting services. We work with the individuals behind each business, helping them solve problems that aren’t necessarily visible on a balance sheet or income statement. At the same time, we lend a fresh perspective on strategies and tactics to reach a particular objective or outcome, whether it’s related to talent development, improving employee engagement or establishing a new product or service.
