Be part of something bigger. Build with us today — Now, for tomorrow.
At Baker Tilly, we care about the impact you make. That’s why we’re invested in your growth from day one—because the steps you take today define your tomorrow.
We are looking for a full-time, permanent Senior Manager to lead our small business practice in Thompson and Flin Flon. This role suits an experienced small business practitioner who knows the North and wants to build and manage a regional portfolio with the backing of a leading Manitoba firm. You will report directly to the Partners and be the main point of contact for owner-managed businesses, professional practices, and community organizations in the region.
This role can be performed remotely from Northern Manitoba. You will be close to your clients and your community, with regular travel to client sites and periodic time in our Thompson, Flin Flon, or Winnipeg offices. You will have the support of our Winnipeg tax, advisory, and assurance specialists whenever a file becomes complex. Our success depends on attracting, developing, and retaining strong professionals and clients, and this role is central to that.
We are also open to developing the right candidate into a future leader and will look for Partnership opportunities for the candidate that can showcase exceptional customer service, have a growth mindset, and deliver for clients.
Baker Tilly is a leading advisory and accounting firm dedicated to building better futures. With global reach and local roots, we combine the scale of a network with the trust of strong relationships. From audit and tax to consulting and specialist advisory services, we help clients navigate complexity and seize opportunity with clarity.
“There is no limit to the growth opportunities at Baker Tilly. We pride ourselves on promoting talent when we see it, and work with each professional to define what success means for them.”
Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Client service and advisory. You will be the trusted advisor to small and owner-managed businesses. That means meeting with clients regularly about year-end results, cash flow, bookkeeping quality, and planning. You will advise on incorporation and structure, owner-manager remuneration, simple reorganizations (holding companies, share exchanges, and estate freezes), and the purchase, sale, or wind-up of a business. Where a matter becomes complex, you will bring in our tax group.
- Engagement delivery. You will plan, manage, and complete compilation (Notice to Reader), review, and year-end engagements. You will review financial statements and working paper files, and oversee corporate, personal, and trust tax returns, T4 and T5 slips, payroll remittances, GST/HST, and Manitoba retail sales tax. You will also manage budgets, scheduling, WIP, billing, and collections for your portfolio, and make sure firm policies and professional standards are met.
- Team leadership. You will supervise, coach, and develop staff and remote team members on Northern files. This includes reviewing their work, giving regular performance feedback, and supporting recruitment, training, and practice development initiatives.
- Business development and community presence. You will build relationships with local businesses, banks and credit unions, lawyers, and other referral sources. You will represent Baker Tilly HMA LLP in the Thompson and Flin Flon business community and contribute to proposals and growth opportunities in Northern Manitoba.
