Baker Tilly Canada firms band together to fight hunger

Thomas Blonde 10 sept. 2019

Toronto, ON – Baker Tilly Canada is pleased to share that seven Baker Tilly offices across Ontario and Saskatchewan are hungry for change – continuing the tradition of joining forces to raise thousands of dollars in monetary and food donations to support their respective local food banks through Farm Credit Canada’s (FCC) annual campaign.

The aim of FCC’s Drive Away Hunger project is to address the more than 4 million Canadians, of all ages, abilities and employment status, who live with food insecurity. As leaders in the agricultural industry, local farm advisors are keenly aware of the importance of eating well – combined with Baker Tilly’s dedication to creating lasting, positive impacts in our local communities, this cause is a perfect fit.

Baker Tilly Canada firms across the network have been participating for more than 10 years, and the initiative has become a highlight of the community outreach work each firm undertakes. This year sees participating firms from Walkerton, Winchester, Kingston, Leamington, Yorkton, Guelph-Wellington-Dufferin and Chatham raising a collective $7,000, which will be distributed to local food banks to aid in the fight against hunger.

“As a nationwide network, we’re committed to the success of our communities – and that means working to ensure no one goes without access to proper nutrition, regardless of their circumstances,” says Tom Blonde, who leads Baker Tilly Canada’s Farm Committee. “Taking into consideration our history and roots in Canada’s rural communities, this effort is near and dear to our hearts, and we look forward to carrying on this tradition and participating in many more years to come.”

Since its inaugural drive in 2004, “FCC Drive Away Hunger has collected more than 50 million meals directly benefiting food banks and school feeding programs in Canada.”
