From March 6-19, Collins Barrow is highlighting the excellence and achievements of several women who strive towards creating value; breaking equality barriers and empowering others.
International Women’s Day celebrates the women who make it happen all around the world. Our women make it happen every day. Collins Barrow believes in a workplace environment that fosters the careers of Canadian women. Over the past 20 years, the accounting industry has seen a positive shift in the attitudes towards female advancement. At Collins Barrow, we already have a higher percentage of women partners than the industry norm—and growing. Meet Denise.
Denise qualified as a chartered professional accountant at the ICAO in 1981 after graduating from the University of Windsor with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Commerce. Specializing in assurance and management advisory, Denise holds the distinctive accomplishment of being the first female partner in the Collins Barrow network.
Whether she is structuring assets, planning taxes or implementing accounting systems, Denise maximizes profits by using a company’s past performance as a starting point for developing and fine turning strategies that lead to an accelerated business growth. Sitting on the volunteer boards of Maryvale for Troubled Teens and Windsor Essex Community Foundation, Denise encourages young adults to create the path to success by never stopping to learn and finding better ways to accomplish your goals. Her dedication to creating value and empowering other female professionals to achieve success for clients, as well as themselves, earned Denise the honour of receiving the Athena Award for Influencing Women in Business and the Clark Award for Community Volunteer Services.
“Knowledge sharing is one of the key motivators in achieving success for our clients as well as our own network of talented professionals,” says Denise. “The collective expertise of the women and men of Collins Barrow inspires me to find new ways of creating value on a daily basis. Our belief is to define what is really important to our clients, so we can drill down on opportunities for growth and provide the best advice possible—and we do so every single day.”
Did you know: If Denise could speak to one great woman in history, it wouldn’t be just one. She would meet the women who led the suffragette movement in Canada -- Emily Murphy, Irene Marryat Parlby, Nellie Mooney McClung, Louise Crummy McKinney and Henrietta Muir Edwards-- to thank them for recognizing that a woman’s voice is vital and worth fighting for.
