In the Spotlight with Anthony Barone

Tell us about yourself.

I am a proud father of two boys which I share with my wife. I started my career with KPMG LLP in the Industrial markets audit practice where I worked on several large Canadian multinational manufacturers, and was able to travel all over North America, Europe and Asia as part of my work. After a great run working with large and public companies, I came to the realization that my personality and entrepreneurship was better suited towards owner managed entities. I have been working with small to medium sized companies for the last five years, advising in audit, accounting and tax matters. Outside of work, I play recreational hockey, soccer and golf, and am a very amateur wine and cigar collector.

Has there been anything positive you have witnessed/seen from the recent crisis?

People coming together to help each other and showing goodwill is probably the most positive thing I’ve seen. Secondly, owners pivoting fast to essentially save their businesses has been encouraging to see. The amount of resilience shown early on is encouraging and ultimately what will help us get through this.

What do you value most about working at Baker Tilly WM?

The people first and foremost. Being able to work with great people every day is motivating and makes getting out of bed that much easier in the morning.

What is the best advice anyone has given you?

No one will invest in you like you invest in yourself. You need to sell yourself and push yourself forward to create opportunities both personally and in business. Being an Entrepreneur can be difficult and dark at times, you really need to believe in yourself to make it through the storms.

What inspires you in your career or life in general?

Being part of something that is bigger than me for both myself personally and for my clients really drives me. I take great pride in my practice and my clients growing and taking the next step. Being a part of that and being a trusted advisor along the way is very cool and satisfying.
