In the Spotlight with Jodi Rustad

Tell us about yourself.

I’m a partner in the assurance and accounting group with a focus on privately owned companies. I grew up in Whistler and spent my childhood skiing and enjoying all the other outdoor activities Whistler has to offer. I now live in North Vancouver and spend much of my free time on the many hiking trails in my back yard.

Has there been anything positive you have witnessed/seen from the recent crisis?

There has been a noticeable increase in the number of people who are taking advantage of nature and using all the trails that are available. It is so nice to see so many families hiking, biking and spending time together. Also, everyone seems to be a little bit friendlier and it does feel like we are all in this together.

If you were not an accountant what would you have liked to be and why?

If I weren’t an accountant, I would have loved to be a veterinarian, or a similar profession that would allow me to work with animals.

Outside of work, what keeps you busy?

When I’m not at work, I am the manager and member of a competitive Dragon Boat team that practices in False Creek. There are few things that are as enjoyable as spending a sunny evening on the water with a view of our beautiful city. In addition, I spend a lot of time hiking, skiing and spending time with friends and family. I also love to travel and explore new places.

What do you value most about working in the Baker Tilly WM?

I started at Baker Tilly WM (previously Wolrige Mahon) as an articling student. I remember attending the wine and cheese at the firm to meet the partners and staff as part of the interview process and knew immediately this was the firm where I wanted to work. The partners were warm and friendly as were all the staff. The feeling I had that night proved to be correct and has remained to this day. The people I work with is what I value most about working at Baker Tilly WM. Even though there have been significant changes over the years, the firm has still maintained its identity and the value it places on its people. I feel lucky to work with people who are intelligent, innovative and committed to providing excellent customer service.
