Your primary responsibilities will include:
Job Description Summary:
The Manager leads, coaches and develops dynamic teams of professional accounting staff; takes ownership of day-to-day client relationships and the creation of high-quality deliverables; manages resource allocations to ensure positive outcomes are achieved on client engagements; and works with senior leaders to drive practice development and business development initiatives. The manager also plays a key role in driving collaboration across the firm, operational efficiencies and development opportunities for staff.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Client service delivery:
- Work closely with Partners and Senior Managers to develop and implement accounting and tax strategies for clients.
- Prepare detailed reviews of compilation, review and audit engagements to ensure compliance with professional and firm standards.
- Identify and resolve accounting, audit and tax issues in a timely manner by leveraging the appropriate mix of resources, while escalating any relevant issues to Senior Managers and Partners as required.
- Manage resource scheduling and delegate work successfully to ensure the right skills and capabilities are available at the right time to deliver client commitments.
- Manage day-to-day client relationships and communicate effectively with clients to ensure expectations are managed.
- Manage client engagement financials including budgets, WIP, write-offs, billing and collection.
- Implement and enforce high standards for quality deliverables and ensure client needs are met in a timely manner.
Team management and leadership:
- Provide management and leadership to Senior Accountants, Junior Accountants and Co-op students on assurance and non-assurance engagements.
- Build, manage and motivate high-performing teams for specific client engagements through coaching, mentoring and training staff.
- Identify and resolve any obstacles or resource scheduling conflicts that are hindering progress.
- Actively manage performance by providing timely, open and honest feedback and conducting quarterly and annual performance reviews.
Practice and professional development:
- Lead practice and professional development initiatives to support the achievement of business goals.
- Establish, facilitate and train team members on the firm’s processes, practices and use of relevant systems on client engagements.
- Remain up-to-date on the latest accounting practices and seek opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness across the firm.
- Source tools, software and training that helps improve internal processes and client workflows.
- Drive collaboration, ideation and positive relationships with other team members across the firm.
- Identify and implement operational efficiencies.
Business and market development:
- Identify and cultivate new sales and/or service opportunities.
- Attend and present at various industry conferences to evangelize BT GWD, our expertise and our services.
- Support Partners and Senior Managers with business development activities as required.
A successful candidate will have:
Technical Skills:
- Strong technical knowledge in accounting, assurance and tax.
- Thorough knowledge and application of relevant professional standards, regulations and corporate governance requirements.
- Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to effectively manage multiple engagements with competing timelines.
- Experience working in public practice accounting.
- Thorough understanding and ability to use Microsoft Office applications.
Qualifications and Attributes:
- Undergraduate degree in accounting or business required.
- CPA designation required.
- Experience in an accounting role at a public accounting firm required.
- ≥5 years experience in accounting, with a focus on compliance and financial reporting
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain trusted advisor relationships with clients.
- Excellent interpersonal relations with the ability to lead, mentor and develop others to build high performing teams.
- Commercial awareness with an understanding of good business practices to create economic value for the firm.
- Business development skills are an asset.
- Ability to think strategically and influence senior leaders.
- Excellent communication, leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to deliver accountabilities and make decisions independently.
- Ability to motivate, engage and collaborate with a diverse peer group across multiple disciplines.
