Sourcing and closing better deals with PitchBook

In its role as a financial advisor, Baker Tilly Canada Capital Corporation (BTCC) helps small- to mid-size companies execute sell-side, buy-side and valuation engagements. To optimize the process of finding and reviewing buyers for clients, BTCC employs PitchBook to analyze information quickly and efficiently.

PitchBook provides a comprehensive financial database with access to extensive capital market data. BTCC uses PitchBook to source potential buyers, build more accurate comparables and access deeper market intelligence, which can then be combined with its own advisors’ substantial expertise and insight to drive more value for clients.

PitchBook provides data on more than 1.9 million companies and 282,000 investors, offering information such as:

  • Investor’s previous investments and acquisitions
  • Investment preferences
  • Amount of capital an investor has available
  • Fund performance

“PitchBook lets us quickly understand what valuations look like out in the market, and that helps us develop what we consider a fair value for our clients’ businesses,” explains BTCC president and managing director Kevin Shaw. “It also gives us background information in terms of which deals other purchasers might have completed in the past, which helps us negotiate more effectively.”
